Join us for our May 2017 meeting with ADAS member artist and local contemporary impressionist painter PAULA RILEY
May 9th, 2017
Tuesday Evening Meeting at 7:30pm
Alamo Women’s Club, 1401 Danville Blvd., Alamo, CA
Paula Riley is a self-taught artist who feels that it is most important to maintain her own voice through her paintings. She has painted for 30 years, but it in the past several years that she has devoted her time and energy to truly developing a business as an artist. Though it may sound like a cliché, she is a passionate painter. Her early love for nature, flowers and gardening can now be experienced in her colorful, energetic paints. Her many collectors comment that her paints bring them a bit of joy and a smile to their faces.
Paula strives to take her paints beyond what is seen by the eye, and to create a mood or feeling through color, composition, and brush work. SHE is interested in light and shadow, in warm and cool, and texture. She paints from life as much as possible, and has had the opportunity to plein aire paint in many beautiful locations – including Italy and France. She admires the work of Impressionists and later Expressionist painters, especially the methods of Russian Impressionist, Sergei Bongart. Her moto is “painting to express, not to imitate”.
Paula will be painting fresh flowers for her demonstration on May 9th. Her moto is “painting to express, not to imitate”.
