Salang Pass Restaurant, a Fremont oasis of tranquility and beauty, offers the best Afghanistan has to offer the palate. Owner, Wahid Andesha offers "real Afghan food" using fresh ingredients and offering something for all tastes. Vegetarians are comfortable with favorites such as Bolani - handmade dough shells filled with your choice of leeks or potatoes and spices baked on a flat pan served with homemade yogurt and special sauces. Ashak, Afghan ravioli, can be served with or without meat and Borani Kadoo is a treat not to be missed. This pumpkin dish is a new and welcome experience for those unfamiliar with Afghan food. Diners can also try Bodinjan Borani, an eggplant dish served with yogurt and Afghan bread. The aushak is to die for (kind of like spinach stuffed ravioli with a light and tasty yogurt sauce) and the kebabs delicious, tasty and juicy. The Afghan rice is better than any Asian variety. The service is good and the prices are very reasonable. Reservations are a good idea especially if you want to lounge on the floor cushions under the indoor awning.

I love Afghani Food! and Salang Pass has hands down the best Afghan food in the Bay Area.
Its located in the centerville district, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you come in they have a beautiful wall mural and a colorful draped floor sitting area.
If you come here, you must sit on the floor to have the full experience. My food recommendations:
for appetizers, Bolani, the portion is huge so make sure it for sharing. The mantu or aushak is also excellent for appetizers.
Entrees, all their kabobs are good, my favorite is beef keebedah.
and for dessert, make sure to try their Firni, a homemade custard.
