Kensington Library Book Club - "Snow" by Orhan Pamuk
Monday, Jan 28 7:00p
Kensington Public Library
Kensington,
CA
Turkish author Pamuk pens a political novel about the poet Ka who has spent eight years in exile. He returns to the isolated town of Kars during a blizzard. Cut off from the outside world, the town's tensions center around an epidemic of suicides among devoutly religious schoolgirls who prefer to kill themselves rather than remove their head scarves. A military coup and Ka's sudden love for an old friend contribute to the poet's burst of creativity after a years-long bout of writer's block.
