Paramount Theatre

2025 Broadway, Oakland, CA, 94612
(510) 465-6400 - Venue Website

Oakland's Paramount Theatre is one of the finest remaining examples of Art Deco design in the United States. It was designed by renowned San Francisco architect Timothy L. Pflueger and completed in late 1931. After its initial brief blaze of "movie palace" glory in the 1930's, this remarkable auditorium suffered three decades of neglect and decline until its rescue by the Oakland Symphony, the City of Oakland and numerous private donors. A painstaking and authentic restoration was completed in 1973 and the Theatre became a California Registered Historic Landmark in 1976 and a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Fully upgraded to modern technical standards, the Paramount now serves all the arts, is the home of the Oakland East Bay Symphony and hosts a year-round schedule of popular music concerts, variety shows, theatre and - of course – movies.

“Watching the great films of Hollywood's Golden Era at the Paramount Theatre, America's finest Art Deco movie palace, brings you back to the 'movie palace' glory of the 1930s, when motion pictures grew into one of the nation's greatest industries,” said Leslee Stewart, Paramount Theatre General Manager. “Patrons can come 60 minutes before the curtain rises, enjoy a cocktail at the bar and listen to renown organist Jim Riggs playing the Mighty Wurlitzer – it's a fabulous experience.”
