United in Anger: A History of ACT UP -- Free Screening at Samuel Merritt University
Thursday, Jan 31 7:00p
With director Jim Hubbard and local activists in person. A feature-length documentary about a small group of men and women who came together in the late 80s to form ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). Their goal was to end the AIDS epidemic in the face of government neglect, AIDS hysteria, and entrenched homophobia. The film reveals the group’s complex culture — meetings, affinity groups, and civil disobedience, mingled with profound grief, sexiness and the incredible energy of ACT UP.
