Miyavi provides a leading voice to the visual kei style of Japanese popular music. His first band, Due le Quartz (French is very popular among visual kei acts) broke up in 2002. His solo career as a major artist began in 2004, when he signed with Universal Records, Japan. In 2007, Miyavi announced that he would join the project Skin with other notable superstars, such as Gackt.
