Growing The Future: Farming Families of Marin

The Marin History Museum is getting ‘down to earth’ in 2009 with a new exhibition celebrating the history and heritage of farm fresh food cultivated in Marin’s fertile lands.

Opening Day is Friday, February 13. Exhibit Hours are: 11 am – 4 pm, Tuesday – Friday, plus 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of the month.
Exhibit will run until January 2010.

Created in collaboration with local agricultural leaders and historians, and with special oral histories recorded by Dominican University interns, Growing the Future begins with Marin’s indigenous people, the Coast Miwok, who developed early systems of land management and stewardship. The exhibit spans four generations of pioneer farmers originating from Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Ireland and Latin America. In addition, artifacts, antique tools and photographs from the Spanish Missions and Mexican Land Grant era will be featured.
