Opening Reception - German Herrera: Manifest

SMITH ANDERSEN NORTH is pleased to present Manifest, recent work by German Herrera. Herrera’s images inhabit the space between the familiar and the unknown, never fully surrendering to either but holding our attention in the tense and enigmatic in-between. Born in Mexico City, his images demonstrate a distinct interest in surface; like compatriots Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Graciela Iturbide, there’s a sense that what is seen is not an end in itself, but a gateway to the imaginative subconscious .
