Charles was born in S.F. & then was raised in LA, taking up the trumpet at age 12. He toured with an R&B band while in high school. He switched to trombone & moved back to the Bay Area to study music at S.F. State. Through the years, he’s played with top jazz figures & for 28 years directed the jazz program at Berkeley High. In his career, he’s been instrumental in developing the talents of young players, many of whom are household names on the jazz scene. www.charleshamilton.net
