The best yet

This shorter version of the famous ballet has all the important dance numbers, including a lovely party scene, with a menacingly humorous Drosselmeier (Charles Anderson)and lots of shennanigans by Fritz (Miles Deane-Grundman). The fight scene has the usual outcome (death of the the Mouse King, played by the comedic Scott Pascal), followed by a succession of lovely candy-related sequences. Each individual corps de ballet member and solo dancer shines, with special kudos to Ashley Ivory (Sugar Plum Fairy), Kristen Isom (Arabian), Robert Dekkers (Russian) and Renee Lee (Waltz of the Flowers). David Fonnegra is a magnificent Nutcracker/cavalier. A kindly narrator (Marlene Swendsen) gets involved in the action while explaining some necessary story elements. Bravo, CC Ballet! 2009 was the best year yet!
